  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

For the Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
    • Add the olive oil, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare the Filling:
    • In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, shredded mozzarella  cheese, grated Parmesan  cheese, chopped parsley, and dried oregano until well combined.
  • Assemble the Bread Twists:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.
    • Roll each portion into a rectangle about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide.
    • Spread the cheese and garlic filling evenly over each rectangle.
    • Fold each rectangle in half lengthwise, covering the filling, and pinch the edges to seal.
    • Twist each filled dough strip gently and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Prepare the Egg Wash:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and water.
    • Brush the top of each twist with the egg wash.
  • Bake the Bread Twists:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the  bread twists are golden brown and the  cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve:
