Easy to create with basic ingredients, this Buttermilk Pie recipe is a traditional treat.

Still, an old-fashioned Southern delight is buttermilk pie. To enjoy this excellent tasting custard like dish, you do not have to adore buttermilk. Buttermilk pie is simple to prepare and perfect for holidays or any other time. This pie is perfect, hence I have never presented it to anybody who disliked it. You cannot go wrong with it. Your family will adore this traditional, simple meal. You won’t carry this pie home as it is great for any occasion or celebration. It last many days in the refrigerator and tastes well with milk for a snack or coffee as a dessert.

Ingredients ( Eight servings)

Two eggs

One ½ cups white sugar.

half a cup softened butter

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

One cup butterm milk

One tablespoons of lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

¬ ½ teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg

One (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Making Buttermilk Pie: How To

Set the oven for 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Till foamy, beat eggs. Add butter, sugar, and flour; beat until smooth.

Stir in nutmeg, vanilla, lemon juice, and buttermilk. Pour onto pie shell.

Bake, 40 to 60 minutes, until center is firm.

Out of the oven, chill for one hour before serving.

Suggestions

Cover your pie with foil for the whole baking time if the sides of your pie crust brown too soon. 

When the top is just golden and the middle of the pie still jiggles somewhat, your pie is done. As it cools, it will set still more. If a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out mostly clean, your pie is ready.
