Angel Cookies Recipe
They are called “angel cookies.” One bite and you too will be in heaven!
Ingredients:
– 5 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/4 cup sugar
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 3 teaspoons baking powder
– 2 teaspoons salt
– 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
– 1/4 cup warm water (110 to 115 degrees F)
– 1 cup shortening
– 2 cups buttermilk
– Melted butter for brushing
Instructions:
1 In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking powder and salt. Put aside.
2.In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let stand until it begins to foam, indicating the yeast is active.
3. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk to the flour mixture until all ingredients are well mixed.The dough should be sticky.
5. Place the dough on a well-floured surface and knead gently for a minute or two to combine.
6. Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thick and cut it out with a cookie cutter.Place the cut cookies on a greased baking sheet, cover with a clean towel, and let them rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until they have almost doubled in size.
7. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
8. Once the cookies have risen, bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.9. Remove from the oven and brush the surface with melted butter. Serve hot for the best experience.
Remember that angel biscuits are best enjoyed fresh from the oven, but you can also store them in an airtight container and reheat them to enjoy the next day. Enjoy your beautiful cloud-like creation
